The First Light Of Advent

Grace made this beautiful wreath out of greens from our backyard. This was the eighth graders art project this week and it came out absolutely gorgeous!  Isn't it stunning?!We are so glad that our girls have grown up Waldorf and that they have been able to continue with their Waldorf education this year even though I returned to full time paid work. We could not have asked for a better school community for them to be a part of this year!
The first light of Advent is the light of the stones.
The light found in crystals,
In seashells,
And in bones. xo

The Fourth Light Of Advent::Love

The fourth light of Advent is the light of man.
The light of love, the light of thought, to give and understand.
Love is patient,; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way;it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.  -1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

The Light Of The Plants

The second light of Advent is the light of the plants.
Plants that reach up to the sun and in breezes dance.

The candle that was lit today also symbolizes peace.

"It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it."
-Eleanor Roosevelt

Love

Slowly creeping toward the day
As the winter paves its way
Love as fresh and pure as snow
Guides us toward His loving glow.

Hope

Since today is the first day of Advent, we gathered some evergreen branches and holly branches from our backyard and the girls decorated our Advent wreath with them (they did such a fantastic job)!  Tonight, before dinner, we lit the first candle which symbolizes hope.  This is the first year that the girls are getting to light the candles, and Emma was super excited to be the first one up.  As you can see she took her job very seriously!  There is something so peaceful and serene about candlelight, but especially as the days get darker earlier.  Candles play such a major role in the rhythm of our days and it's always nice to add in a festival or holiday celebration where candlelight is one of the main focuses.  You can't help but stare at them with wonder, awe and hope.

The hope inside my soul so deep,
Ignites the fire my spirit keeps,
Awake at night,
Alive all day,
Burns bright within to lead the way.
