Last Saturday Night
Last Saturday, dear friends who we had not seen in far too long, were in town getting their Christmas tree. They decided to grab dinner afterward and then ice cream after that (at our most favorite ice cream place). When Heather texted us after dinner asking us to join them for ice cream we couldn't possibly pass that up! It was so lovely to get to visit with them and catch up (and introduce them to the yumminess that is New City Microcreamery in the process)! There's nothing like the kind of friendship where you can go long stretches of time without seeing each other and then pick up right where you left off. And even more amazing is when the kids can do that with each other, too! xo

Celebrating The End Of Summer
On Friday, we gathered together with our friends to end the summer on a fun and colorful note! With school starting again this coming week it felt like the perfect way to mark the unofficial end of summer. It was a lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon and even lovelier that our gathering was able to continue into dinner and dessert later on!
Today brought with it a sweet ending to the summer with the Back to School Bash at New City Micorcreamery (or in our case the Not Back to School Bash)! Ice cream, balloon animals, face painting and a family photo booth picture made for quite a fabulous time!
And just like that the summer has come to an end! Regardless of how your family learns, be it at home or at school (or maybe even a little of both), we wish you all the most wonderful of Not-Back-to-School and Back to School weeks! May this year be full of many wonderful experiences, many teachable moments and many incredible memories to last a lifetime! xo

Lights, Camera, Action (and Ice Cream)!
The girls did an absolutely fabulous job at the dance show on the last day of dance camp! Learning five dances in under a week and making all the fun costume pieces to go with the aforementioned dances was just super impressive! Each day Grace come so very happy yet so very tired. It was an incredible week and she's looking forward to next year already!
The final lunchbox note of dance camp.
I may have had a little too much fun with this one!
I may have had a little too much fun with this one!
Of course, after the show we just had to get ice cream!
Is there any better way to celebrate? We think not!
A perfect ending to a dance filled, fun filled, packing filled week! xo

The Last Few Days
Friday morning we decided to try our hand at shortbread making. We had finished The Cobble Street Cousins book four the night before and in it was a recipe for shortbread that we agreed we needed to try. We gathered the ingredients and got to work.
The Deaconettes (as my dear friend Jane has dubbed Grace and Emma) had a fabulous time filling the communion cups.
It was delicious!
Lunch that afternoon was popcorn and wild berry smoothies. It's always slim pickins' on Friday around here but if truth be known this was such a hit that we're thinking it needs to be a more regular thing.
Saturday morning the girls and I went over to church to begin some preparations for communion on Sunday. I absolutely adore being a deacon and all the tasks that come with it. No matter how many times I help prepare communion (and therefor see the above diagram) the "do not use a jelly donut" notation never fails to make me giggle! There must be quite a story behind this if it was worthy of a notation in the deacons manual! The Deaconettes (as my dear friend Jane has dubbed Grace and Emma) had a fabulous time filling the communion cups.
That afternoon we went to Hudson Fest and had to stop by our new favorite place for ice cream.
We were super excited to get to watch as a batch was being made.
That evening we gathered with some of our dearest friends for s'mores in the backyard. And seriously if you haven't tried Ghirardelli squares in place of Hershey's yet you are really missing out. It take s'mores to a whole other level!
Sunday morning. The cat traps are working. And please disregard the wounded wall in the background. The epic winter we had was not kind to our house. With any luck repairs will start mid-July/early August. There is much work to be done but when it's completed it will look better than ever!
Our sweet old farmhouse is all dressed up for summer.
Since we were at church later than we had planned to be we arrived at the classic car show in town later than we had hoped to. It was pretty much over when we arrived, but we were happy to get to see a few cars that were still there, especially this absolutely gorgeous Ford Fairlane. It was truly a sight to behold! We hope that your weekend was as lovely as ours, and that your week is off to a fabulous start! xo
