Chatting With Gramma:: It's Hump Day!

"Hey, Gramma! Guess what day it is! Guess what day it is!"
"It's hump day!"
Telling Gramma about the tire on her bike popping.

So, over the weekend my mom shared with me that she was really looking forward to Wednesday arriving so that she could call us and ask what day it is. Sadly, I had no idea what she was talking about. She goes on to say: "Haven't you seen the Geico commercial where the camel asks everyone what day it is?" This is just further confirmation that my mom is way more in the loop than I am. So, I look it up on YouTube ('cause I was dying to see what she was giggling about) and instantly laughed at the sight of this camel in an office asking everyone what day it is! I finish my phone call with my mom and then head into the living room where the girls are playing. "Girls, I have got to show you this thing Gramma was just telling me about!" and proceed to turn on the commercial. Grace takes one look at it and says: "Guess what day it is!" My jaw hits the ground and I say to her: "You know this commercial too?!" And without missing a beat she looks right at me and says: "Yeah Mom! It's hump day!" So, not only does my almost 65 year old mother have more of a clue about pop culture things than I do but evidently so does my almost seven year old daughter!

Little Laundress

My mom has a love for the laundry like none other.  She has the ability, pardon me, the gift to be able to fold contour sheets like nobody's business and make these sheet bundles that no matter how many times I try I just cannot master.  Many years ago she used to do the wash for an older woman in town and she would often times tie beautiful satin ribbons around the laundry bundles before she'd drop them off.  I am sure that it was magical to be handed such a lovely bundle of wash.

So, it was no surprise when last year she gave the girls the wash and rinse basins (and later on a wash board).  Grace and Emma don't miss a beat and in no time at all they had their doll clothes and drying rack out too.  This has remained a favorite activity ever since, and so when Em got out these items and set them all up on the front porch recently I couldn't pass up the chance to take pictures.  The first two were taken with me still inside (hence the odd reflection) and then shortly after I made my way out she finally noticed me.  It was so sweet to watch her work.  And even sweeter that I got to capture these moments for all time.

With any luck, the ability to love the wash skips a generation.  With any luck my girls will inherit my mother's laundry doing abilities.  And who knows, maybe when I'm an old lady they'll do my wash for me and bring it back with satin ribbons tied around it! XO

Surprises From Gramma

Today a package arrived in the mail for the girls.  Before I started getting dinner ready I opened the paper it was wrapped in and removed two packages wrapped in white paper.  One was labeled "For Grace" the other "For Emma".  I brought the packages in where the girls were playing and they looked up, eyes full of wonder.  "Are they for us, mama?"  "Are they from Gramma?"  After the "ooh"ing and "aah"ing over the sweet gift tags with their names on them (a trait they clearly inherited from my Mom) they finally tore into the paper to reveal the surprises that were underneath:  books!  What could be better?!   Thanks for the wonderful new books, Gramma!  We know what we'll be reading at bedtime tonight! XO

Dresses From Gramma

About a month ago my mom called to ask if the girls had Easter dresses yet.  She said that she had stumbled upon some perfect dresses but that she was not sure if she should get them or not and asked if I could go online and see what I thought.  As I was chatting with mom and looking at all the different dresses there were to choose from my two sweet girls showed up and plopped themselves on my lap.  They quickly (and unbeknownst to me) chose the two dresses that my mom had fallen in love with.  It was clearly a sign that these were the dresses that needed to be purchased for these two sweet, little girls.  She brought the dresses up with her last time she came to visit and they have been quietly waiting in the closet for Easter day to arrive.  Yesterday morning we gave the dresses to the girls who gasped with excitement the minute they laid eyes on them! They were clearly over the moon to get to wear such beautiful dresses!  Thanks mom for making their dreams come true! XO

Flower Girls (and a sheep too!)

After all, it wouldn't be a trip to the farm without a visit with the sheep!

Chattin' With Gramma

Emma loves to chat on the phone with my Mom.  Pretty much daily she climbs up on the little red table in our kitchen (located near our corded phone), picks the reciever up and asks to call her Gramma (who she calls "boppa").  Yesterday, before I was done chatting with mom I asked Em if she wanted to say "hi" to her Gramma.  Below are some photographs of their conversation.
Notice the yarn pieces on the floor.  She left her cutting to chat with Gramma.
I don't think it stretches any further, sweet girl.
"la la la la la"
This is pure Emma (and my favorite of these pictures).
I am so thrilled that I was able to capture the fabulousness of their conversations this time! It is how all their conversations look and usually I don't think to photograph them but am so glad I did!  This child was indeed put on this Earth to bring joy to all who have the chance to know her (and the same goes for her sweet sister). Truly she should have been named Emma Joy instead of Emma Faith.  It would have been a very fitting middle name for this particular little!
