One Last Birthday Gift

So I was just looking through the pictures on my phone and realized I have been a major blog slacker lately! There are so many pictures that I need to share in this space before the summer ends and our lesson year begins (because, seriously, if I haven't done it by then it will never happen)! We'll start with the most recent and work backwards. Here goes....

This sweet gift arrived in the mail on Saturday but since I was at bikini team kick-off Dave put it aside since he knew I'd want to be there when she opened it. When we got home from church yesterday, I handed Grace the package and clicked on Marco Polo so that Alice and her lovely family could see Grace open it. She is super intrigued by the beautiful needle threader and was absolutely over the moon to receive another embroidery kit from Cozy Blue (and, just shy of twenty-four hours later she completed about 50% of it already)!  Thank you Patirica and Alice for such a sweet gift for Miss Grace! We are so sorry we weren't able to connect last month, or earlier this month, but there's nothing like getting fun mail from your favorite people! Ya'll are the sweetest and we are grateful for your friendship! xo

Busy Hands

Emma has really been into making friendship bracelets for the last few days. Chances are, if you come through our door she'll ask you your favorite colors and immediately get to work on making one for you! Not only is she making them for friends, but she's also amassed quite a collection for herself. She's currently working on Hogwarts house themed bracelets for each of us (two Hufflepuff, one Gryffindor and one Ravenclaw). xo

Stitched By Grace

When it comes to handwork there's clearly nothing this kid can't do! It was her first time doing embroidery and we were all super impressed with how it came out! With some more practice, she will no doubt have this mastered in no time! This project arrived in the October Happy Hedgehog Post box. We're a little behind (as you can tell) but it worked out well since one of the projects for her Colonial America/American Revolution block was to embroider a tea towel. I'm glad we had this project waiting in the wings! xo 

Halloween Costume Crafting

For Halloween this year the girls decided that they wanted to be a deer and a fox. Some Googling turned up some great ideas, and while I am crafty I knew that we were going to need a true "Craft Master" to help make their vision for their costumes a reality. I called upon my friend Jennifer (who's incredible craft room you see here) to ask if she'd be up for a morning of Halloween costume crafting with us, and she quickly replied that she'd be happy to help! We were thrilled! We gathered last week so that the girls could share their vision with her. A supply list was created and plans were made to gather together the following week (today) to make their dream a reality.

We were in awe of these pieces from the moment we laid eyes on them!Truly gorgeous!

 As soon as we saw her tail up against her dark denim jeans we knew exactly what the rest of their costumes should be. It's pretty much going to have an "if animals wore clothes" look.

Her smile says it all. 

In the words of Jennifer: "These are very Tscherne costumes!" and we have to agree. Every year the costumes the girls choose are always so fitting and always so lovely (and usually nature based). These costumes definitely rate as some of our most favorite, and I'd wager a guess that they are even in the top three! Thank you, Jennifer, for all you did to make their vision a reality. Thank you for spending the morning crafting with us, thank you for knowing us so very well, and thank you for teaching the girls to make felt flowers! It was a wonderful day, and I have no doubt is one that the girls will carry with them always. xo

Made By Grace

When it comes to handwork there isn't much that this kid isn't good at! The latest addition to her repertoire of  handwork talent: felted animals. She finally finished the unicorn kit we gave her for her birthday this past July. Her project came to a complete standstill when this tiny dowel -a necessary item to make the legs- had gone missing. That is until recently when Emma recieved the bunny kit for her birthday and we discovered that same size dowel was in that kit! Once that piece was discovered she got right to work on the unicorn's legs and horn. Before she was able to finish the unicorn (due to the aforementioned missing dowel) she had completeed the chickadee kit that her Grandma Joan and Grandpa Ron gave her for Christmas. She absolutely adores those Woolpets kits, and has decided she'd like the lamb kit to be the next one she completes. xo

New Hats!

For the last couple of years the girls and I have had this goal of knitting hats for the upcoming winter. And yet each year it seems that winter comes before we have even cast on a single stitch. And, if I'm being completely honest here, two out of the three of us really need to improve our knitting skills a bit more before we attempt hats.

And so, as the first bit of winter was felt in the air I realized that the hats the girls have had for the last few years really were in no condition to be their hats again this year. Knitted winter hats are totally their "thing" and honestly, it makes it super easy to spot them when we are out and about since no one else will be wearing hats like theirs. I pondered trying to knit a couple of hats for them and quickly dismissed that idea (though I am bound and determined that 2017 will be The Year of the Hat). Instead, I decided to reach out to my friend Julie who made their last hats and see if she may be willing to do so again. A quick Facebook message to her and an equally quick reply back found us then discussing yarn colors and hat patterns followed by Julie casting on for the first hat a few days later.

They arrived last Friday and are absolutely gorgeous! These hats look fabulous with their winter coats as well as their fleeces. The girls were absolutely overjoyed to have such lovely new hats to wear this winter! With any luck these will last as long as the last ones did! And with just as much luck (and practice) we'll learn to knit some hats of our own before the end of next year!

This Morning

Craft Camp::Day Three, Four And Five

The girls had such an amazing week at craft camp! Each day they came home with three projects and each project was more lovely than the one before it (and they were all beautiful). On day four, the girls each surprised me with a necklace they had made- one of which even had an anchor on it! I loved all of their creations but my most favorite (of the ones they made for themselves) was definitely the sweet dragonfly bracelets they made on the last day. They are very enchanting and so very Grace and Emma.

Their only complaint about this week was that it went by way too fast! And although this summer still has several more weeks to it, they are looking forward to next summer, and another week at craft camp, already! xo
