Yesterday In The Pumpkin Patch

The weather on Saturday and Sunday was absolutely glorious! We spent so much time outdoor soaking it all in and checking all sorts of things off our to-do list. While we were apple picking last Sunday we decided that we'd go pumpkin picking the following weekend. Mother Nature must have known how much we were looking forward to going because she gifted us with the most perfect autumn weekend ever! Pumpkins were picked and cider doughnuts were had and then we headed on our way to another spot for a little more autumn fun (and to check another thing off my bucket list.....)xo

In The Pumpkin Patch

Though Saturday started out grey and gloomy it cleared up beautifully for our trip to the pumpkin patch. We discovered this sweet farm and lovely pick-your-own pumpkin patch last year. Growing up in Bethany we always went picking in the patch at Clover Nook Farm and I was so surprised when I moved to Massachusetts that a pick-your-own pumpkin patch was so hard to find. In all my years of living here I have located only two- one in Harvard and this one in Sterling (which became an instant favorite last year). With Dave's parents here for a visit we decided it would be the perfect weekend to head to the patch. The farm wasn't crowded at all, and the patch was full of gorgeous pumpkins! It made it hard to choose one each, and even Dave's parents couldn't resist choosing a few to bring back to New Jersey with them, Of course, while we were there I couldn't  help but wish that we lived in Sterling (and clearly Grace couldn't either: "Mama, I wish we lived here! It's so beautiful!"). Sterling really reminds me so much of life in Bethany. I'm glad that we get to go visit once (or twice) a year, and I'm glad that there's such a sweet farm, complete with a pick-your-own pumpkin patch fairly close by! xo

In The Pumpkin Patch

Growing up in Bethany Connecticut we always went to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch at Clover Nook Farm. I loved wandering through the patch each year looking for which pumpkin I would choose to take home as mine. So, it came as a great surprise to me when I moved to Massachusetts after college that pick-your-own pumpkin patches were next to impossible to find. In fact, until this year I had found only one.

This year the girls had asked to go pumpkin picking "In an actual patch please, mama?!" and so I figured that we would head back to the patch that we had gone to before. After all, it was, as far as I knew, the only one around. That patch was fine, but for whatever reason it never really clicked with us (as evidenced by the fact that the last time we were there was October 2011)!

On Friday, when I was checking Facebook, I noticed that a friend of mine had posted about another pumpkin patch in the area. I was so thrilled and very grateful for her post, and had a strong feeling that this place would be worth the drive out.

Clearview Farm reminded me a lot of Clover Nook and it felt like home to me the moment we arrived.  It was small (which we love), and while there was definitely a fair amount of people there (it was an absolutely glorious Saturday afternoon) it was not crowded by any stretch of the imagination (another thing that we absolutely love). This farm was totally our kind of farm and exactly what we had been looking for!

We took the wagon ride out to the patch, though we could have just as easily have walked. Everyone there was super friendly and very helpful, and the pumpkins were some of the best we'd ever seen! It was a perfect way to spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon in October (made even sweeter by the yummy cider donuts we bought on our way out). xo

Pumpkin Picking

Now just to figure out what types of jack-o-lanterns to make from these lovely pumpkins.  Thank goodness we have a couple of weeks left to figure it out!
