At The Scandinavian Midsummer Festival

Yesterday we attended the Scandinavian Midsummer festival that the Scandinavian Athletic Club in Shrewsbury puts on each year (and evidently has been doing so for 112 years!). It was a truly perfect day for a festival, and I have to admit I was a bit worried that it was going to be incredibly crowded (surprisingly, and thankfully, it wasn't). From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and made to feel as if we had been attending this event for years. Since it was our first time there we decided to do a quick loop first to see what there was. We stopped by one shop and bought some of our favorite ginger cookies and two dala horse pins (one for each girl to add to the pin collections on her dance bag). We noticed the long line for Swedish meatballs (and agreed to check back on that after the line died down) and we noticed more and more girls and women wearing flower crowns. Finally we happened upon the flower crown making area and after getting the scoop and discussing it we decided that this would be the big treat of the day!

We, sadly, arrived after they had raised the maypole (the strawberry patch had beckoned) but we will be sure to get there earlier next year as it sounds like quite a neat sight to see!
Watching the Vikings be Vikings.
After the Vikings, we decided to head home but not before we shared the Swedish meatball meal (it was so good)! The three of us agreed that this needs to become a "thing" for us, and that we must return next year with David (who was unable to be with us yesterday since it was his weekend on call). Happy Midsummer, friends! We hope your celebration (and your weekend) was as lovely as ours! xo

  1. This looks so cute- and only 2 hours from Albany, which we now know I can do, so maybe we can meet up next year for it! :)

    1. Oh my goodness, that would be amazing! And then you'd have to come over after since we're not that far from Shrewsbury! xo
