Candy Corn Math

Remembering how much the girls loved the jellybean math we did I thought it would be fun to do some activities with candy corn! I hopped on to Teachers Pay Teachers and quickly found some fun activities to do with candy corn. We picked up a container of the variety mix, got out the crayons, glue and scissors and had some fun!
We started with using candy corn to measure pictures.
After that we did some patterns.
Have I ever told you how much these two love patterns?!
Then we did some counting and sorting and graphing.
These girls sure can graph with the best of 'em!
And oh my, the fun that was had and the candy that was consumed!
It was a great way to spend a cold, rainy morning.
Happy Hallowee Eve, friends!

In Which The Gnomes Go To Dance Class

This week the girls got to wear their Halloween costumes to dance class! For the last few weeks their classes have been learning a dance to "The Monster Mash" and to make this first performance even more fun they all came in costume. Grace and Emma were so over the moon to go to their classes as gnomes!
First up: Grace.
Warming up.
The class did such a fantastic job!
Well done, girls!
Next up: Emma.
Another stellar job by Emma's class!

Getting to see all the kids in their costumes was so much fun! Even more fabulous was getting to see all their hard work come together during their performances. They clearly had a blast and are so lucky to have such talented, dedicated, fun loving teachers! It truly is a blessing to be part of this wonderful dance school!

A Walk With Grace

This morning Grace joined me on my morning walk. It's rare that she's up early enough to come with me, so when she wandered into our room earlier than normal this morning I figured that this was the time to invite her along. She has wanted to come with me since the time that Emma came but I hate to wake her up. She was thrilled to be invited along and quickly got dressed. We headed out into the chilly morning air and headed to our destination. We walked hand-in-hand, with Grace chatting and noticing all sorts of wonderful things.

"Mama, why are there roses still blooming? Isn't it too cold for them?"
"Mama, look at all these Halloween decorations! I love the ghosts and the pumpkins and those chickens!"
"Oh Mama, look, I get to see the sun rise!"

We crunched through leaves, chatted about Halloween and wondered what happens with non-Monarch butterflies during the cold winter months. Rosy cheeked and happy we returned to our car. "I had so much fun, Mama, thanks for inviting me along!" "Me too, sweet girl! We will surely do this again soon!" And off we went, back to our sweet little family in our sweet old farmhouse for a yummy breakfast of eggs and toast and to plan the rest of our day.

Our Sweet Jack-O-Lanterns

A quick trip to our favorite farm, followed by carving the sweetest jack-o-lanterns we've ever had, made for an absolutely perfect October Sunday afternoon!

Jack-O-Lantern, Jack-O-Lantern you are such a lovely sight,
Sitting in the window,
Staring out into the night,
You were once a yellow pumpkin growing on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a jack-o-lantern,
Let your candlelight shine!
