Today we made a long standing dream come true! We finally have our first flock of chicks! The girls have hoped for a flock for years and for a variety of reasons we kept putting it off, but with all their summer plans being canceled due to the pandemic we decided that this was the perfect time to make this wish come true. So today, the girls and I headed to Tractor Supply Store and came home with eight chicks (six Mystic Marans, that lay chocolate brown eggs, and two Easter Eggers (that lay blue, green or pink eggs. We won't know the color until they lay their first one). We are grateful to my friend and bikini sister Stephanie for loaning us her brooder bin, heat lamp and waterer and for answering all our questions and sharing her wisdom. The coop gets ordered tomorrow and we are clearly going to need a much, much bigger bag of chick feed than the one we bought today! So far these sweet girls have done great. Of course, it probably helps that they have two wonderful Mother Hens in Grace and Emma, in addition to all the classical music that's been on in the background since they came home. xo
