In The Yoga Studio

In which the girls turn the back deck into their yoga studio for class yesterday. xo

Yoga Class through Sweet Pea Yoga. We first met Alexandra when the girls were toddlers and we took her parent-child class (it was the only class where you could bring more than one child) and we became instant friends! She has a true gift for teaching yoga to children. From newborn to teens her classes are truly spectacular and we are so glad that she went virtual during the pandemic and has continued to teach that way. Not only are we grateful to have Alexandra as the girls yoga teacher and part of our village but I am so thrilled to be able to say she is one of my dearest friends too. xo

Yoga mats from Twelve Little Tales (we love her products)! You can purchase them here. xo

A Summer House Guest

This summer we'll be taking care of this gorgeous plant while Miss Alexandra (beloved yoga teacher of Grace and Emma and a dear friend of our family) is away. She couldn't bare to leave this lovely plant behind, and asked if we'd be up for a house guest. Always up for a new adventure our answer was a resounding "yes!"  Please pardon the not so great picture that I quickly snapped while we were stopped at a light.
And so a journal was begun.
The girls thought it would be fun to document the summer adventures of the plant.
Let's see how creative we can get with this!
Welcome, lovely plant! We're happy to have you! xo

Evening Meditation

I went outside to get Grace's guinea pig out from under the rhododendron bush and found Emma meditating on top of the sandbox.
And before I knew it they were both meditating on the lawn.

The sun setting in the background, guinea pigs in their laps and chants of "om" made this lovely autumn evening even more divine.
Clearly, yoga has had a tremendous impact on their lives.
And for that I am eternally grateful.
Namaste.

With Thanks

Today was the last day of yoga class. With that in mind the girls decided last week that they really wanted to do something special to thank their beloved yoga teacher for another fun filled year of yoga practice. Grace said that she'd like to make blueberry muffins and Emma said that she'd like to "paint a flower pot and plant a flower in it for Miss Alexandra". Between rainstorms yesterday we gathered the needed supplies and got to work. First up: Emma and her flower pot.
Today there was muffin making, flower planting and card creating.
I don't know when she went and grew up on us but watching her measure out the milk had me a little choked up today.
While the muffins were cooling Emma planted the Begonia
and then Grace put the muffins in their bags.
Thank-you cards were made too.
And then it was off to yoga class. Hard to believe that another yoga year is over already. Time sure flies when you're having fun! Thanks Alexandra for making yoga class such a special and much looked forward to part of our week! Have a wonderful summer and we'll see you in the fall!

Yesterday At Yoga

Grace (in the skirt) and a friend did double down dog. She was so proud and couldn't wait to show me when I arrived to pick her and Emma up from class. Simply amazing!

Mini Yoginis

*Note to self: always make sure to check the camera settings before taking pictures after the girls have used it.  Otherwise, you get funky pictures!*

Today was the first day of the girls attending yoga class without me.  And while I was sad that our time attending class together has come to an end, I was super excited for them too.  They were completley over the moon to each have their very own mats, and were even more excited that their beloved yoga teacher, Alexandra, gifted each of them with their very own eye pillow to use during class (and to bring with them to and from class each week)!  The smiles on their faces when we picked them up spoke volumes.  The most telling thing was that Grace, who in the past has always wanted me to be present for things like this, said to me: "Mommy, we had so much fun!  And it's just a class for kids!  We don't need you to stay with us anymore."  My sweet first born daughter is spreading her wings, dear friends.  Testing them out and deciding that she's ready to take flight without me. It's a day that I always knew would come. I am so glad that she took her time getting to this point though.  I love that she has always been able to tell us what she is ready for, what she is not ready for and to remind us that she will "do it when it's her time".  Her ability to advocate for herself is amazing (I know I was not doing this when I was her age)!  Clearly, her time to be spreading her wings was today.  And I could not be more proud!

Namaste.
