Thursday Fun

Grace's Lego creation and story from the first week of Lego Club.
Her creation and story from Lego Club last week.
Emma and one of the horses from last week.
Emma and the rocking horse from today.

For the last few weeks, Grace has been participating in a Lego Club for homeschoolers/unschoolers. It's held at Harmony Woods Farm in Middleboro (which is a truly magical, delightful place)!  The mamas get to chat, the kids get to play and build and connect. It's an amazing time and one of the highlights of our week!

Jellybean Math

Since the girls had such fun with the candy heart math that we did at Valentine's Day I figured that they would also have a blast with jellybean math (another thing that I did "back in the day" when I was a classroom teacher).  I found some jellybean math activities online (thanks Teachers Pay Teachers!) we printed them out (noting that we are in desperate need of a printer cartridge) and gathered the necessary supplies. The girls took it from there...
Even though this was labeled as a sorting activity the girls decided it would be way more fun to color each bean and turn them into the four of us and some of their friends! Great idea!
Jellybean guessing jar.  'Cause why not?!

The Joy Of Rhythm

Today was one of those days that was just fabulously mellow. We ended up getting lots of stuff done but it was all done at such a lovely slow pace that it almost felt too chill for its own good. I suppose that's the joy of having a really great family rhythm. Things just flow so beautifully from one thing to the next that it feels effortless. After our regular "getting the day started" activities (breakfast, getting dressed, making beds etc) the girls headed to the art cabinet and got out the beeswax, gathered the towel and the bucket of water, and got to work creating. I have no idea whose idea this was (or even if it was verbally communicated between them) but it was a fabulous way to start the day! They easily sat creating for over an hour. And after they were done (and photos had been taken and sufficiently Instagramed, per their request) they cleaned up and we moved on to the next thing. Experiencing the ebb and flow of our days is something that I truly love (and Dave and the girls do too). Our rhythm seems to change slightly each season but it always has the same ebb and flow to it. And on days when our rhythm seems to be hiding, or just not feeling right, we take stock in what's going on and decide if it's time for a new rhythm to make an appearance. Living by our natural rhythm instead of by a clock has always been key for us. Sure, there are times that we need to be somewhere at a certain time but even that flows beautifully into our daily, weekly and monthly rhythms. It's in the embracing pf the natural rhythm of our day that has allowed us to live in such joy and harmony.

Shades Of Things To Come

On Monday after the girls ballet class their teacher mentioned that she would be at the Hudson Public Library doing a presentation on Thursday morning in the Children's Room. Since we're always up for a good library event we decided to head over and cheer her on and support their school!
As you can imagine we now have two very excited little girls on our hands! They were already super excited for their Spring Concert costumes to arrive and now they are even more excited! They have been asking all sorts of questions about toe shoes and cannot wait to be old enough to learn how to dance in them. Of course, that's still many moons away yet (though with the way these years keep flying by it will surely be here before we know it)!

The First Day Of Spring

It doesn't look all that different from the last day of winter now does it?!
Happy Spring, Everyone!

Last Day Of Winter

According to the calendar today is the last day of winter. And in honor of this day it seems that Mother Nature felt that meant we should have more snow. The girls, of course, were over the moon to see that the snow fairies were at it again. Once the snow, hail, sleet and rain stopped they headed out. We snapped a few pictures and then off they went to explore, play, create and rejoice in this the last day of winter. Here's to hoping this is the last significant storm of the season and that the spring fairies arrive in all their splendor soon.

On The Eve Of The Next Storm

So, unlike last winter (or "the winter that wouldn't") this is clearly "the winter that could". We are currently awaiting the arrival of our fifth good-size snowstorm as I type this. And it occurred to me, that I never had a chance to post pictures of Dave and the girls and the fabulous snowman they made after the last snowstorm. So, before I miss the chance I figured that now was a good a time to share these sweet pictures with all of you!

A Pie for Pi Day!

This morning in honor of Pi Day we made a cherry pie! Dave brought home a jar of cherry pie filling from Williams-Sonoma last night since Grace and Emma had been asking for cherry pie recently and it seemed like now was the perfect time to fulfill that request. They had such fun putting this pie together, and even more fun with weaving the lattice top! If we didn't have such a busy day today we would have done much more to celebrate this holiday. My friend and fellow blogging mama over at the Momgineer posted a whole bunch of fun ideas for Pi Day on her blog Facebook page that I will surely keep in mind for next year!
