October Wrap Up/ (Or he First Time The Hens See Snow)

It feels like October already began and here I am writting one of the final posts of this (my most favorite) month! So much has gone on since my last post (I feel like such a blog slacker) . There were, of course, lessons.
Art plays a huge role in the Waldorf world. Emma was working on an autumn tree,

while Grace was working on drawing her main lesson title page for her Geometry block
Gretchen found a comfy spot.

The girls tie dyed at youth group!

And my grandfather wrote to Emma to share his big news....

The key to the Borough of Roselle in honor of his 100th birthday (last April) and all he's done!

On our way to Phantoms and Fire at Old Sturbridge Village we decided to (finally) stop  by Tree House. They have curbside pick up down to a science and the view was worth it too!
Phantoms and Fire was Old Sturbridge Village's Halloween program this year since they couldn't do a Covid friendly version of Sleepy Hollow. Thanks to the recommendation of my dear friend Alexandra (who had been invited to attend the Phantoms and Fire dress rehearsal) we made sure to learn about Edgar Allan Poe's life (and read The Raven) prior to going. Monologues from several of his short stories/poems were performed, and, because they were Poe, they were very creepy. We were shocked to see how many people brought their young children to listen. The four of us agreed that this really wasn't an event for anyone younger than twelve (well, at least the monologue portion anyway).

This monologue was particularly gruesome and we didn't stay to the end (though the actress was fantastic).
The "scavenger hunt" was fantastic! You went from location to location collecting another piece of the stamp (it formed a raven on a pumpkin) and if you got all six stamps you could trade your picture in for a bag of candy. It was beautifully done (and they were very generous with the candy).
Which brings us to today. The first snow fall of the season, which also happens to the first snow fall that our hens have experienced.
They were really not impressed and spent a good deal of time refusing to leave the protection of this tree. These poor dears have no idea what they are in for living here in New England.
Just shy of five inches when all was said and done. As a winter loving family we are really hopeful for a decent winter this year! xo
