Also, Yesterday....

Yesterday, while the girls and I were at Silver Lake Dave stayed behind to get more done on the chicken coop. We hated not to have him with us, but were grateful for all he got done while w were away! Here's to hoping we can move them in next weekend! xo

In Which We Sample Silver Lake

In which the girls and I spend this gorgeous day sampling Silver Lake! They were supposed to go for the first time last summer but then Covid happened (and the rest is history). We played games, crafted, enjoyed a delicious lunch (I will be dreaming about those mint chocolate cookies for the next several days), went canoeing (the girls paddled and I got a nice ride), sang camp songs, ate s'mores and played more games and attended closing worship. We had an absolute blast they are looking forward to going even more than they already were! xo

America's Test Kitchen Teens

Yesterday Grace participated in one of the first America's Test Kitchen teen recipe testing Zooms and she had an absolutely wonderful time! They made onigiri (Japanese rice balls). We've been an America's Test Kitchen recipe testing family for a few years now, and the girls have been ATK kids recipe testers for awhile too, but this was the first time that they had gathered some of the teens on Zoom to test a recipe together! What a neat experience! Things needed to be gathered and/or prepped prior, and some things they did together (they chatted while the rice cooked). The teens learned that this particular food falls under the category of "street food" and the people, especially kids or teens on their way to school or other activities, will stop by a food truck or store and buy these to eat on their way. Both girls said they were super yummy and that they would absolutely make these again! xo

A Work In Progress

The artistic abilities of our girls never cease to amaze me. Of course, it really is all thanks to them growing up Waldorf! The arts, especially the fine arts, really are so beautifully integrated into all aspects of their learning and it has made for a very rich experience for our girls (and for us)! Super impressed with Emma as drawing is something that she has often says is hard or that she's not good at. She has worked so very hard and I would say that her hard work and determination are really paying off! xo

In The Tulip Field

Today was an absolutely perfect spring day made even more perfect by getting to spend some of it picking tulips in the tulip field at Ferjulian's! What a lovely start to our week! xo

Morning, Noon and Night

Morning, noon and night. Three peeks into our day.

8:47am.

We woke up to snow this morning. It snowed throughout the day though only amounted to like an inch or two. Towns out and around Wachusett had about ten inches.

12:07pm

Grace is at class, Emma's working on lessons. I love how this picture is all sorts of shades of blue.

9:00pm.

One of the many charming things about Lily-Rose is that this one ear will stay up for a bit before slowly falling back down. xo

Blooming

Grace took these pictures today of the first few tulips that have bloomed in our new spring bulb garden! We ordered an assorted mix from Wicked Tulips Flower Farm last year and cannot wait to see what kinds/colors come up! xo

From The Easter Box

There were two of these darling chocolate chickens in the Easter Box from Dave's parents this year! They are just so charming (and super delicious) and I couldn't resist taking a picture before they were both gone! xo

Today In Maine

The girls had their second dance competition of the season today. This time it was in Maine. I have not crossed state lines in fourteen months and honestly it felt really weird but really good too! Our drive to Portland took just under two hours and the roads were pretty empty today which made for an easy trip!

All the CSDS dancers killed it on that stage today! Everyone came home with either platinum or platinum pro scores! Grace and Emma's duo scored platinum and they were even invited to attend Nationals! Afterward we celebrated with our family of friends (pizza and ice cream in lovely Portland)! Two comps down, one to go! xo

Waldorf Kids In Spring

I loved capturing this sweet moment of the girls today working on their nature paintings for their art lesson this week. I just love that they love being outside and that they will often choose to do their lessons out there, or attend their class Zoom calls outside. They truly are Waldorf kids through and through! xo

A Peek Inside Grace's Main Lesson Book

Since it's been awhile since I last shared what the girls are doing for lessons I thought now would be a good time to do just that!

Let's start with Grace's main lesson book from her anatomy block.

As with most things, Waldorf teaches things so beautifully. From the way the material is brought to the children, to how the children interact with it, to the way art is brought in we just stand in awe. Honestly, I often think if I had learned material this way I would have enjoyed it so much more (and probably would have retained it better).

On more than one occasion I told Grace "When I was in school we would have been given a worksheet and told to label it."
This drawing especially blew me away. Goodness, it's like textbook quality!
Along with the gorgeous drawings she did wonderful descriptions of the various parts of the body that she had drawn. I didn't include those only because it would make this post even longer, but mostly because I was just really impressed with how beautifully her drawings came out! xo
