Saturday 10:30am.

After I dropped Grace off yesterday I went to Panera to have some breakfast and work on my research paper while I waited for Dave's parents and Emma to arrive in Sturbridge. They had wanted to see her before heading back to New Jersey and since I was out there I had them bring Emma with them and met them there. We heard a wonderful lecture about the Quakers in New England before heading over to Freeman Farm where Grace and some of the other ladies were working that day. The day was beautiful but very cold, especially when the wind picked up! It was lovely to get to spend some time outside though and I am grateful we all had lots of layers to keep us warm! xo

4th of July At Old Sturbridge Village

At 12:00pm today we got a text from Grace saying the parade was at 1:30pm so we dropped what we were doing and hightailed it over! We made it shortly after they had lined up. Perfect timing!

After the parade the Declaration of Independence was read.
Once the reading of the Declaration was done everyone headed back to the various houses/buildings. Grace was in the Fitch House (one of my most favorite houses at OSV. My other favorite is the parsonage)  so we decided to go peek in on what she was doing over there.

Today, she was helping in the kitchen where they were making Independence Cake. Sadly, because she's not eighteen she's not able to eat anything that they cook or bake (due to things being unpasteurized).
The 4th of July celebration at Old Sturbridge Village is one of our most favorite days at the village. This is the one day that Grace really wanted to be at OSV and we are so glad that she was able to be one of the Junior Interns there today. It wouldn't feel like Independence Day to us if we didn't go to the village, watch the parade and listen to the reading of the Declaration. It's such a simple celebration, but so very meaningful. Happy Independence Day, everyone! xo

At The Village

Last Sunday was her first day at Old Sturbridge Village and it was super cold and super rainy. Today she was back and it was a balmy 90 degrees! She had a great time though and can't wait to be back next Saturday (and on the 4th of July)! xo

In The Costume Department

Today we got to spend the morning in the costume department at Old Sturbridge Village getting Grace fitted in her Junior Intern costume! It was so much fun and the perfect way to start our day! This outfit, along with a shawl, scarf and basket (to carry her "modern things" in) will be picked up on May 15th, which is the first day of her two day training! We are so excited for her and can't wait to hear about all she learns and experiences during this incredible opportunity! xo

Baby's First Interview

Today was Grace's Junior Intern interview at Old Sturbridge Village. We arrived about fifteen minutes early and made our way to where the interview was to take place (stopping first so I could take a quick picture of her near the "Junior Intern interview" sign). We were warmly welcomed by Kim Adams, director of the Junior Intern program. She invited Grace into her office and invited Emma and I to wait just outside of it while she and Grace chatted. It was really neat to listen as they talked and Grace did a wonderful job answering all her questions. She had brought along examples of various handwork projects she had completed to show Ms. Adams and I heard Kim exclaim that she did wonderful work!

Shortly after that Emma and I were invited to join in the fun! We sat and listened to Kim tell Grace all about the program. When she got to the part about the training weekend in May Grace and I locked eyes, our hearts sinking as we heard the words "the first wekeend in May." Dang it, I was so sure I heard it was the middle of May! Ms. Adams talked a bit more and then asked if we had any questions. It was then that I asked about the training dates and she explained that "yes, it's usually mid-May but we have a graduation that weekend so it had to be moved." I told her then that sadly Grace has her final dance competition of the season that weekend and wouldn't be able to attend. All our hearts were sad but then Ms. Adams smiled and said: "I will keep your application on file and since we have already interviewed we won't need to do that again". She then turns to me and says "send me an email next fall and we'll put her name back in." We thanked her for a lovely start to our weekend and went on our way. All three of us were disappointed that it didn't work out for this year but are grateful she'll have the opportunity in 2021! xo

Two beautiful letters of recommendation and one completed Junior Intern application have been mailed to Old Sturbridge Village! And now we wait (and hope that she gets chosen)! xo
