On Her Eighteenth Birthday

Emma's birthday was so much fun and absolutely fabulously Emma! Her birthday started with gifts (as all good birthdays do), some that she was given right away and some throughout the day.
After gifts (and some snowblowing of the driveway) we headed out to the Natick Mall so that she could get Toothless stuffed at Build-A-Bear and her free birthday gifts from Sephora.
After that it was off to Legacy Place where we had a quick bite to eat at Cafe Nero before going to MiniLuxe for a mani for Em and a pedi for Grace (and some walking around for Dave and me).
After their nail appointments we enjoyed a yummy lunch at the Friendly Toast and gave Emma the final birthday card of the day which instructed her to
head to Kendra Scott to find something beautiful to commemorate her eighteenth trip around the sun.
We ended the day with a cake from Ben & Jerry's (made with Phish Food and Cherry Garcia ice cream, of course!) and some Olympic figure skating. And, just like that the final Tscherne girl has become an adult! These years went by way too fast but they have been truly glorious! We are looking to see where her first trip around the sun as an adult takes her! xo

Scenes From Emma's Birthday

Birthday mornings in our family always start with gifts!
Generally, sister gifts are first.
And this time was no exception!
Nothing like a silly birthday message/inside joke from one sister to the other!
I love that I was able to capture this moment!
Grace gave her some make-up supplies as well as a gorgeous band for her Apple Watch (which I realized when I was putting this post together I did not take a picture of yet).
In which David presents Emma with the gift his parents sent.
A much wished for riding jacket!
Time for her gift from mama and daddy.
Just like when Grace turned sixteen, we gifted Emma with a necklace of what the sky looked like when she was born. We also purchased her sun, moon and rising sign natal chart and reading as well.
Ready for her birthday gathering!
The girls get started.
Hard at work.
The girls did such a fabulous job creating their wreaths! Each one was as beautiful and unique as they are! Such a perfect way to celebrate Emma's sweet sixteen! After this they headed out for Starbucks and shopping in Hudson, then came back and watched a movie before Emma had to head to her riding lesson and Mandy and Lucy had to head home. It was a truly perfect day, celebrating the newly minted sixteen year old! Hard to believe that she's sixteen already (and that we won't have any more sixteen year old birthday gatherings in our house again).

Emma Faith, you are an absolute delight of a human and it truly is an honor to be your mama. Getting to be part of your world from the moment you were in my belly and every day since has been the privledge of a liftetime. I have loved watching you grow into the amazing young woman that you are and cannot wait to see what awaits you this year. Wishing you a year as delightful, caring, joy-filled and passionate as you are! You complete our family so beautifully, and I am grateful you chose me to be your mama! Here's to another fabulous trip around the sun! I love you to the moon and back, forever and ever, sweet girl. XO, Mama

Fifteen

And just like that she's fifteen! Every yaer seems to go by faster than the last! This trip around the sun was full of joy and laughter, tears and sorrow and so much growth! This fall proved to be one of her most challenging and difficult yet, but we have seen her emerg stronger and more confident because of it. Yesterday was truly a  day that was absolutely perfect for Miss Emma. She chose to forgo the crown I made her all those years ago ("it's getting a bit small, mama!") in favor of her favorite crown, which is far more grown up than the felt one I created when she was four. After we betowed our wishes on her for this next year, and the birthday crown was fully aglow, she opened her gifts and then went on a scavenger hunt for one final gift: a much wished for snowboard of her own! Thankfully Mother Nature bestowed the gift of snow upon Emma's birthday, which just made the day even more magical and lovely! That afternoon and into the night, the celebration continued with Mandy and Lucy joining us for make-overs, and movies, and pizza (since the ramen place was closed) followed by the most delicious chocolate raspberry cake for our chocolate raspberry loving girl. Grace and I had made it while Dave and Emma were out buying her bindings. All agreed it was delicious and was a recipe worth repeating! From start to finish, there could not have been a more perfect birthday for Emma Faith! Her next trip around the sun is sure to be full of joy and laughter, tears and sorrow and so much growth but we are here for it and cannot wait to see all that awaits her!

Happpy Birthday, Emma! We love you to the moon and stars and back and are so proud to be your parents! We are with you every step of the way! xo
