Hope

Since today is the first day of Advent, we gathered some evergreen branches and holly branches from our backyard and the girls decorated our Advent wreath with them (they did such a fantastic job)!  Tonight, before dinner, we lit the first candle which symbolizes hope.  This is the first year that the girls are getting to light the candles, and Emma was super excited to be the first one up.  As you can see she took her job very seriously!  There is something so peaceful and serene about candlelight, but especially as the days get darker earlier.  Candles play such a major role in the rhythm of our days and it's always nice to add in a festival or holiday celebration where candlelight is one of the main focuses.  You can't help but stare at them with wonder, awe and hope.

The hope inside my soul so deep,
Ignites the fire my spirit keeps,
Awake at night,
Alive all day,
Burns bright within to lead the way.

  1. Também acho que o "advento" é época de calmaria, reflexão e meditação. Passei o domingo só, porque meus filhos estavam num "retiro" (encontro de jovens) e voltaram renovados, isto é muito bom pra família.
Lindas as suas fotos. Boa semana!

  2. There is something magical about candles. We have recently begun burning one in a large hurricane lantern in the middle of our dining room table. I choose candles that smell earthy and beautiful. The one I have now is patchouli and clove. It does help relieve stress and bring beauty to our home. I have to dig out our advent wreath.........

  3. Jess, I totally agree! It's just so captivatingly magical! We start each day with a small candle (called the Morning Light) that we light before our family meeting (and blow out after breakfast) and then we light a candle in the evening as we prepare our dinner and blow that out before Dave and I go to bed. It's a nice way to mark the rhythm of our days and it's just so beautiful too! I think next year (or maybe even this year if we need a second set) we'll make beeswax advent candles! :)
