A New Bike For Emma

With both girls having outgrown their bikes, and with Toys R Us closing, we decided it was the perfect time go to take a peek and see if we could find them some new ones. Emma quickly chose this one, partly due to the style, partly due to the colors and partly due to the super cool rack in the back! Sadly, Grace didn't have luck funding one that she liked in the size that she needed. The salesman did tell us that they are still receiving shipments a couple of times a week (complete with new bikes) so we'll keep checking back with the hopes of finding one for her before the store closes. For now, the girls are happy to share this one! Now, if only it would warm up and turn into better bike riding weather! xo

And She's Off!

Tonight I discovered Grace helping Emma learn to ride her bike. Emma gave it a good shot on Grace's bike but ultimately decided she'd rather give it a try on her (much-too-small-for-her) bike. She went back to our house, got out her wrench, removed her training wheels and...
walked her bike back down the street to her sister. She proclaimed all the way that she would spend the next days and weeks figuring out how to ride her bike without training wheels if that's what it took.

Grace headed home to change dresses.

And no sooner did I say to my friend and neighbor Lily that "she'll probably start riding her bike like right now" than she did!
What a sight to see!
And us mamas just smiled with pride as another little from the street was now on two wheels! There's truly nothing like watching them learn to ride and seeing the pride on their face when it all just comes together right before their eyes. It's pretty much as awesome as when they first laugh, or first figure out how to walk. It's a moment that none of us shall ever forget!
Grace returned and was super surprised to see Emma riding (as we knew she would be)!
She is so proud. We all are so proud. And what makes me even more proud is how she waited until the moment it felt right in her soul for her to take her training wheels off (for good). They had been off before and were then put back on and remained so until this very night when it was finally her time. Watching her glide past us tonight was as if she had never had those training wheels on at all.  It was as if she had been riding a two wheeler her whole life. What an absolutely beautiful sight on this absolutely most beautiful of nights! Congrats, Emma! We are so very, very proud of you! xo

A Splendid Saturday

After the bitter cold temperatures of this winter a 45 degree day today felt like a heatwave!  Dave dug the girls bikes out of their winter garage spots (and quickly adjusted Emma's since she's grown so much since this past autumn) and off they went! They must have ridden for close to two hours, soaking in all the wonderful sunshine and warmth we had been gifted by Mother Nature. What a glorious Saturday and a lovely taste of the Spring to come!

Two Wheelin'

She's got it!
While watching Grace ride her bike Emma snapped this selfie of us!
Way to go Grace! What a difference a week makes!

A Sunday Family Bike Ride

The last few weeks the girls have been all about riding their bikes.  They are on them multiple times each day and definitely each night after dinner.  We headed down to the Rail Trail in town to give them a good amount of straight, flat road to ride.  Dave even dusted off his mountain bike (which had not seen the light of day in at least six years).  The girls loved having their Daddy ride with them. I chose to walk in case anyone needed any help.  Plus, it gave me a chance to use Dave's fabulous iPhone to take some pictures (I seriously need to get me one of these, if for no other reason than the camera rocks)!  It was a glorious way to spend a Sunday and I couldn't help but think how awesome it will be to ride the trail in the fall when all the leaves have changed and there is a crispness to the air.
