An Ordinary Miracle

The girls and I took a trip to Drumlin Farm last Friday.  It was an incredibly beautiful spring day, and we were thrilled to be there without our coats, or the various layers of clothes that have been required for many, many weeks now.  As we made our way to the farm yard we passed a kind woman who told us that a goat was getting ready to give birth.  We high tailed it over to the goat shed, found some prime spots and waited to witness the miracle of birth.  The girls were captivated.  They did not take their eyes off the mama goat the entire time.  A question every now and again would come from one of them, but for the most part they were not phased at all.  They simply watched in awe as a new baby entered the world.  And they watched in awe again as the baby goat stood on its own roughly fifteen minutes after it was born.  Watching my babies watch as another mama brought her baby into the world was truly one of those moments that I will cherish forever.  And then of course my mind raced ahead to many years down the road when they are bringing their own babies into the world. I know that the love, wonder and amazement we three felt in that barn that day will be felt again many, many years from now as they welcome their own little ones into the world.
