Last Saturday Night

Last Saturday, dear friends who we had not seen in far too long, were in town getting their Christmas tree. They decided to grab dinner afterward and then ice cream after that (at our most favorite ice cream place). When Heather texted us after dinner asking us to join them for ice cream we couldn't possibly pass that up! It was so lovely to get to visit with them and catch up (and introduce them to the yumminess that is New City Microcreamery in the process)! There's nothing like the kind of friendship where you can go long stretches of time without seeing each other and then pick up right where you left off. And even more amazing is when the kids can do that with each other, too! xo

Solstice Gifts From Friends

Yesterday we received a package in the mail from our dear friends Patricia and Alice! It was such a lovely treat, and the girls couldn't wait to see what Alice had sent them! They were so surprised to discover Peter Rabbit necklaces! This was completely fitting since Patricia and Alice recommended the movie Miss Potter to us (if you haven't seen it you must! It's wonderful!)!

Thank you, Patricia and Alice, for such wonderful gifts! We are so blessed and grateful for your friendship, and look forward to many more adventures together in 2016! xo

Weekending

Friday was a fun filled day that brought a morning adventure with dear friends to the EcoTarium followed by a super fun birthday party with some of our dearest friends that evening.

On Saturday while Dave and Emma were doing the food shopping, Grace and I decided that we'd walk to the local diner in town for some breakfast (the french toast was incredible). It was so lovely to be able to have that time together just the two of us! From the moment we left the house until the moment we returned she did not stop talking! Saturday evening found us gathering with friends once again but this time we were celebrating a birthday and a karate achievement. On our way to their house we passed a sign for the Unicorn Golf Course, and I'm sure you can imagine the kind of conversations that we had in the car upon seeing that!

Finally, after two fun filled days Sunday arrived and it was decreed by Emma that we all needed a "lazy day". We channeled our inner sloths and found ourselves doing a whole lot of nothing for the majority of the day. And while we missed being at church I have to admit that after a couple of busy days a day in our jammies was just what we all needed (even Gretchen was down with this idea)!

We hope that you all had a lovely weekend with just the right mix of fun and relaxation! It's hard to believe that the end of June is upon us, and I have to admit that with how fast these days keep passing us by I am so very grateful for the chance to slow down, reconnect and recharge! xo

Our Garden

This past Saturday was absolutely gorgeous and completely perfect for planting our garden. With rain forcast for Sunday we knew that we had to get the seedlings and seeds in the ground then so that they'd be able to take root and really make our garden beds their home for the season.
Emma planted the tomato plants.
And Grace was all about the peppers.
While Grace was finishing up planting the peppers, Emma got to work on the lettuce.
It was decided that we'd attempt carrots again this year with the hope that they would get mistaken for weeds this time around!
We don't do much from seed as we just don't have the space in our house (or the ability to keep them warm enough) to start them ahead of time. However, we will plant seeds when they can directly go in the ground as is the case with carrots, peas and sunflowers.
The girls plant the pea seeds. They're going in a wee bit later than we'd have liked but with how funky the weather's been lately we figured better late(r) than never.
Emma planting sunflower seeds.
Grace plants her sunflower seeds.

There are still a few more seedlings that we need to buy (squash, zucchini) and we have yet to plant potatoes in the coffee bean sacks (like we did last year) but they're on the agenda too. Once the gardens are complete we'll put the garden gnomes in which is pretty much like putting the cherry on top of the sundae for this Waldorf family!

While we were busy planting the mail arrived, and in the mail was this very sweet birthday/thank-you gift from my dear friend Patricia (and lovingly made by my super talented artist friend Heather). It was an absolute treat to be gifted this print which totally makes me think of Grace, Emma and I! Thank you, Patricia and Heather, for this absolutely wonderful gift! It's currently on our nature table until I can find the perfect frame and wall for it to hang on! I just adore it (and you both)! xo

An Early Birthday Gift

My birthday is not until Sunday but my first gift arrived today! Thank you, Kim, for this absolutely gorgeous bowl and the lovely hand salve! I cannot tell you how much it means to me to have been given such a thoughtful and beautifully handcrafted gift. Thank you, dear friend, for the lovely surprise and for kicking my birthday off on such a special note. I shall cherish this bowl for the rest of my days and think of you each time I pass by it. It has already found a home on our nature table and I know that it will be full of wonderful little treasures before long! xo

A New Tradition

This past weekend we met up with our dear friends from Outnumbered to finally make the much discussed camping adventure a reality.  We arrived at Pine Acres early evening on Friday.  Our campsite was amazing!  We were the only two families in this secluded spot. It was perfect!
After breakfast we agreed that there was much swimming that needed to be done.  We started with a walk to the lake followed by a dip in the pool.
After all that swimming and digging and playing, we headed back to camp to get changed and have some quiet time.
It was then decided that some ice cream was in order.
After all, life is short and you should always eat dessert first!
Then it was back to the campsite to get ready for dinner.  Reading and caterpillar finding and general merriment were on the agenda too.
After dinner there was marshmallow roasting and s'more making followed by a camp wide dance.
And sadly, our final day arrived.  We all agreed that the end came way too quickly.  Grace reminded us that we never did make it to play mini-golf on the course there, and of course everyone really wanted another trip to the pool/sprinkler park.  While we packed up the kids played and chatted and plans for next year's camping trip were discussed.  It was hard to say good-bye to our friends.  While we don't see Heather and Al and the kids nearly enough, each time we are together it is as if no time has passed!  We are looking forward to next year's Pine Acres adventure already.  Though we surely hope to play a few times before then, of course!
