Wednesday at Colonial Williamsburg

 We returned to the Revolutionary City on Wednesday to explore some more, but also to attend the bits and bridles behind the scenes tour. 

That's one motley crew rollin' into town!

 We certainly found spring while we were in Virginia!

 I'm pretty sure they would have been quite content to sit on this hillside covered in buttercups all day. 

Our tour began with a walk to the barns. Along the way we learned all sorts of things. One being that children can apply to be part of the fife and drum corp at Colonial Williamsburg as young as ten. And they prefer them to have no musical training prior. Oh, if only we lived closer! 

 We also learned that Queen Elizabeth came to Colonial Williamsburg  in 2007. She rode in one of the open top coaches. 

 Emma loved getting to sit side saddle. 

 George Washington rode by while we were there. 

 Getting the team hitched up. All of the drivers and horses are at the barn for one hour for lunch. After lunch it's back out until dinner time.

The tour was absolutely wonderful! I am so glad that we got a chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about how the animals, especially the horses, are cared for at Colonial Williamsburg.

After the tour, and a tiny snack, we headed back to the condos to rest before returning that evening for dinner. We dined at Shields Tavern that night and I can safely say it was absolutely one of the best meals ever! The icing on the cake though (and if you go you must get the carrot cake! It is beyond delicious!) was how impressed our waitress was with Grace stacking up all dishes that everyone was done with so that she could easily clear the table. She was so appreciative of Grace's help that she treated her to a scoop of vanilla ice cream to go along with her carrot cake! xo
