On Boxing Day

For whatever reason Boxing Day in our family has always meant a new Lego set for each girl and this year was no different. The big difference this year was that the girls and I took a road trip to Ikea to pick up Emma's final Christmas gift, a floor lenght mirror. Sadly, I took no pictures of that trip. So while there wasn't Lego building during the day, Grace spent time that evening working on her new set, which I have to say, is one of my favorites (but really, all the flower sets are truly stunning)! xo 

Today At The Library

Emma made this gorgeous rainbow while we were at the library today! It should be noted that the girls do not get their Lego skills from me. I can barely make a  Lego car, so it's safe to say that a Lego rainbow is totally and completely out of my wheelhouse! xo 

The Newest Project

Some of us have work to do. Others have lessons to do. Yet, completing yet another section of the Saturn V rocket is far more appealing! xo

The Latest Addition

And the Lego collection has grown once again! xo

On Tuesday

Tuesday's adventure involved a trip to the mall to use the Lego gift card that her Gramma Terri and Grandpa Gene gave her for her birthday. She carried her gift card proudly all the way to the store and then made a beeline for the Lego Friends and Lego Elves section. She looked carefully at each box, and finally settled on the dragon you see above. "I want Grace to be able to choose something with my card too, mama!" she said as she proudly walked to the cash register, paid for her item and  then handed Grace the card with what was left on it. As soon as we arrived home, they changed into their jammies and got to work creating the dragon followed by the chick that Grace chose. Their abilities to quickly and easily build these Lego creations never ceases to amaze me (especially since I can barely build a basic Lego car)!

Thanks, mom and dad for the gift card for Emma's birthday! Both girls truly enjoyed it! xo

Of Playing Cards And Legos

 Yesterday after we got home from the parade (and cooled off from the heat) Dave and Grace sat down to build one of the Lego birds from the set we gave her for her birthday. While they were building Legos Emma and I played a few hands of cards. First up: Go Fish. 

"Mama, do you have any queens?" 

After we were done with Fish I taught her to play War and Crazy Eights. She loved both, but War was clearly her favorite. Luck was definitely on her side as she was the clear winner of the first (and second) game we played! 

Just about the time we were wrapping up game number two of War, Grace appeared with her newly built Lego creation: a European Robin. 

This thing is truly amazing (not to mention so very heavy) and she was super proud of this build. It has found a home in the library on our new Lego shelf where I am sure that it will stay for many, many moons. It's a perfect spot for this most gorgeous creation! xo

Wordless Wednesday::Legos

Lego Americana

Yesterday the girls and I went to the Natick Mall to check out the Lego Americana Roadshow. And while these pictures are incredible the pieces are even more impressive in person! The hours spent and the attention to detail are all beyond compare.

I just adore this picture of the girls standing in awe of the Washington Monument. 

Each piece was more impressive than the last. 

And just when we thought we couldn't be any more impressed we happened upon this....

Oh my word!

There are no words to adequately express what it was like to see this one. It was simply amazing!

Eight builders. 1700 hours. Well done, team!

If you are local you have until November 2nd to see the pieces. Where they go from here I'm really not sure as I couldn't find a schedule online. What a treat to have this incredible roadshow right here in our own backyard! We've been looking forward to taking the girls to DC to see the monuments for quite some time now, and while this was a lovely introduction for them, getting them there to see the real things soon is definitely even higher on our list now! xo
